Welcome from the Elementary School Principal

Welcome to IAA’s Elementary School. In Elementary School we recognize that choice, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity are important ingredients for student engagement and learning. We are starting an exciting time at IAA, implementing 21st century practices that will equip and prepare our students for a rapidly changing and unpredictable world. Using Understanding by Design to guide our planning and embracing a culture of Project Based Learning, we will support our students’ learning journey.

Please schedule a school tour and come visit!

Our English Language Arts and math curricula are based on The Common Core Standards, a clear set of goals and expectations for the knowledge and skills students are supposed to achieve in English and mathematics at each grade level. Our school has adopted The Reading and Writing Workshop, a standards based, efficient method of teaching reading and writing. We follow Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which set the expectations for what students should know and be able to do in the sciences.

Foreign students who do not speak Spanish attend our Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) classes until they are ready to be integrated into the regular Spanish classes. Starting in second grade, students who come in with limited English receive additional support for English Language Learners (ELL).
