ACADEMICS | Counselor's Corner

The Counseling Department at IAA fosters a supportive, safe and growth-enhancing environment.  Within it, all students are given the opportunity to enrich their educational progress and ensure they receive the preparation needed to meet current and future challenges.  The Counseling Department advocates on behalf of the students to ensure that their developmental, social, emotional, and academic needs are met.

The Counseling Department recognizes the dignity and worth of each student and promotes understanding by recognizing that students vary based on ethnic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, as well as gender, sexuality and learning styles.

The school counselors provide visionary leadership focused on helping all members of the IAA faculty and staff to work toward providing an environment in which the personal/social, career, and academic growth of all students will be maximized. Counselors abide by professional school counseling ethics and best practices as dictated by ASCA (American School Counseling Association).  All counselors participate in professional development activities essential to maintaining a quality school counseling program and fostering professional growth.

IAA’s school counseling program is comprehensive, research-based, developmentally appropriate, and it is designed to prepare all students to become responsible, productive as well as emotionally healthy citizens. The comprehensive counseling program focuses on the delivery of preventive services and interventions in the areas of academic, personal/social, and career development.  Consultation is applied whenever possible as it is an effective form of intervention followed at the InterAmerican Academy.
